South Alabama Names Kit Strief Director of Media Relations

The University of South Alabama has named Christopher "Kit"
Strief to the post of director of media relations, it was announced today by
Athletic Director Joe Gottfried.  Strief assumes the position following a year
of graduate internship at Disney's Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida.  He
replaces former SID, Matt Smith, who passed away last year.

"We are excited with the addition of Kit Strief as our media relations director,
said Gottfried.  "He was a popular choice with our selection committee.  We were
impressed with his experiences and most notably his year with Disney and his
persistent effort in wanting to be a part of our program.

Strief's responsibilities will include the overall operation of USA's 15-sport
NCAA Division I media relations department.  In addition, he will serve as
primary contact for Jaguar women's soccer, men's basketball and baseball.

A native of Des Moines, Iowa, Strief held the position of assistant media
relations director at the University of Northern Iowa prior to attending
graduate school.  At UNI, he served as primary contact for women's soccer,
basketball, softball and men's and women's golf.  In that capacity, he oversaw
the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golf Tournament, assisted with the MVC
Women's Basketball Tournament and ran UNI football statistical programs.

Strief has held sport media relations internships at the University of
Nevada-Las Vegas, Indiana University and University of South Carolina-Aiken,
providing both D-I and D-II experience.  His graduate internship at DWWS
included responsibilities with media relations/publicity and client
services/promotions.  He earned a bachelor's degree in journalism, mass
communication and radio/TV from Grand View College in Des Moines, Iowa, in 2000
and a master's degree in sports administration from Wichita State University in
May, 2005.  Strief is a member of the College Sports Information Director's of
