Mike Chilson will step down as Hartwick College’s sports information director on Aug. 5.
Chilson, 32, said he gave the college a three-week notice Monday so the Hawks would have adequate time to fill the position before the start of the 2005-06 academic year.
"Ultimately, I want to become an athletic director," said Chilson, who added he applied for enrollment at the University of Tennessee. "I loved it here, but I want something new."
Chilson has spent the last 5 and one-half years at Hartwick — over two as an assistant SID before taking over the top job. He replaced former Daily Star sports editor Bill Sodoma, who left Hartwick to become the SID at Colby College in Maine.
