Army's Bob Beretta has been promoted from associate athletic director for media relations to senior associate athletic director for athletic communications.
A local product with deep-rooted ties to the Hudson Valley, Beretta is in his 11th year overseeing the Army Athletic Association's athletic communications efforts and 19th year overall as a member of the department.
Beretta replaced longtime Army Sports Information Director Bob Kinney in April 1995, was promoted to assistant athletic director in June 2000 and elevated to associate athletic director three years later.
The Newburgh, N.Y., native graduated magna cum laude from St. Bonaventure University in May 1987 with a bachelor's degree in mass communication. Three weeks later, he began a six-month internship in the Academy's sports information department. Elevated to full-time assistant status in January 1988, Beretta later succeeded Kinney as the Academy's fourth sports information director.
Presently, he is charged with overseeing the communications operation for Army's vast 25-sport intercollegiate athletic program and works primarily with the football and baseball squads while also serving as the color analyst on Army's basketball radio network. He recently chaired the athletic department's Brand Identity Committee, served on the steering committee for the Kenna Hall of Army Sports and remains a permanent member of the selection committee for the Army Sports Hall of Fame. He also played an integral role in overseeing the Army Sports Network's venture into television production the past two years and helped negotiate Army's sweeping multi-media agreement with ESPN this spring.
