Myers Hired at SID at UVa-Wise
The UVa-Wise athletic department announces Chris Myers as the
new sports information director. Myers joins the Highland Cavalier family
after spending the past three years in a similar capacity at NCAA Division
II East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania.
Myers will take over the direction of the 11-sport NAIA sports information
department of UVa-Wise. The Highland Cavaliers compete in the Mid-South
Conference in football and the Appalachain Athletic Conference in all
other sports.
“We are excited to have Chris on board starting today,” said UVa-Wise
assistant athletic director Danny Sterling. “He brings a high level of
experience and his professionalism will be a welcomed addition to the
staff.”
Myers is a veteran to the field of collegiate sports information entering
his seventh year as a sports information director and 10th year overall in
the profession. He comes to the Cavaliers after directing the 19 team
sport information department including NCAA Division I wrestling over the
past three years (2002-05) at East Stroudsburg University.
“I am excited to come to UVa-Wise and the opportunity to take the sports
information department to new heights,” tells Myers. “There is a lot of
potential to do great things here and plan to be the foundation to help
realize this untapped potential.”
Before heading to East Stroudsburg, Myers spent one year as the sports
information director at Denison University in Granville, Ohio, and two
years at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas. He was also assistant
sports information director at Clarion University of Pennsylvania for two
years and spent two seasons in minor league baseball with the Jamestown
Jammers of the New York-Penn League.
The Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania native earned a bachelor’s degree in
communications from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and a master’s
degree in sport management from East Stroudsburg University of
Pennsylvania. He, his wife and sons are excited to reside in Wise.
