Martin Methodist Names Montevallo Grad SID

A 2005 graduate of the University of Montevallo begins work Aug. 1 as the new sports information director at Martin Methodist College.
Chris Megginson, a native of Hueytown, Ala., earned a degree in mass communication and worked in the sports information office while a student at the University of Montevallo, and the wide range of experience he gained in that office made him an attractive candidate, said Jeff Bain, MMC’s director of athletics.
“Chris has the most experience in sports information as a student assistant that I’ve ever seen,” Bain said. “His role at the University of Montevallo was more of a full-time position as opposed to a student assistantship, and he took advantage of every opportunity that he was given. Not only does he have experience in the fields of radio broadcast, photography, editorials, promotions, and web sites, but Chris also brings with him a vision of how to grow a department within his profession. All this is quite an accomplished resume in such a short amount of time.”
Megginson remarks, “I’m excited about the opportunity to join the team at Martin Methodist College and work to grow the department and school in a great community.  At the same time, I’m very thankful for all the opportunities and guidance I was given by the University of Montevallo.”
Former supervisors also sing Megginson’s praises.
“Chris has put in countless hours in all facets of athletic media relations for the University of Montevallo,” said Alfred Kojima, the school’s sports information director. “His drive and determination will be a key factor to his overall success as a sports information professional.”
Cynthia Shackelford, the director of public relations, applauds Megginson’s career focus.
“Chris learned early in his collegiate career that sports information was indeed his niche, and he was able to learn many aspects of the profession literally from the ground up,” she said. “We at Montevallo wish him the very best and we will certainly follow his work there.”
