Matt Schabert has been named assistant director in the Athletic Media relations Office at Morehead State University.
Most recently, Schabert has served as an assistant sports information director at Texas-San Antonio. At UTSA, he served as the primary contact for women’s basketball and baseball.
Prior to that, he spent a year as an intern in the sports information office at Virginia Tech, handling duties for men’s and women’s soccer and swimming and diving. From a very young age through earning a bachelor’s degree, he assisted his father, Tennessee Tech Sports Information Director Rob Schabert, as both a volunteer and student worker with Tech athletics. He graduated from Tennessee Tech in 2002.
“We’re pleased that an individual with Matt’s experience and familiarity with the Ohio Valley Conference, Pioneer Football League, Morehead University and the media that covers all those entities has joined our staff,” said MSU Athletic Media Relations Director Randy Stacy. “His talent and work ethic will enable him to make an immediate positive impact on our media and public relations efforts.”
Schabert, a native of Cookeville, Tenn., is a member of College Sports Information Director of America. He’ll be the contact for volleyball, women’s soccer, women’s basketball, softball and tennis at MSU.
He and his wife Jennifer have a six-year-old son, Jacob.
