Celest Stang has been named the sports information director at Saint John’s University. Stang began her new duties on Tuesday, August 16, and will be responsible for all aspects of promoting SJU’s 12 varsity athletic programs. Stang replaces Michael Hemmesch, who handled SJU sports information responsibilities for nine years and was recently promoted to the position of director of media relations for Saint John’s University and the College of Saint Benedict.
Stang comes to SJU from the St. Cloud State University athletic media relations office, where she was a graduate assistant for the past two years. Stang served as the primary media contact for women’s hockey, softball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball and baseball at SCSU.
“There will be big shoes to fill here at Saint John’s taking over for Michael as SID,” said Stang. “I am looking forward to the opportunity to work in this exciting Division III atmosphere.”
A native of Redwood Falls, Minn., Stang received her master’s degree from SCSU in athletic administration in 2005 and her bachelor’s degree from SCSU in sport management and recreation in 2003.
