Michelle Railsback, a four-year letter winner in both indoor and outdoor track at Idaho State, has been hired to the new position of sports information assistant, announced Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations Frank Mercogliano. Railsback’s primary duties will be to handle the day-to-day media relations needs of the ISU cross country, track and golf programs.
Railsback, originally from Lincoln, Nebr., spent the past two years working in the sports information office as an undergraduate and a graduate student intern, where she worked on the press box staff for football, and she also helped write and edit the 2005 track and field media guide.
Railsback earned eight letters in both indoor and outdoor track, winning three conference titles, two indoor (pole vault) and one outdoors (4x100 meter relay). She is also was a member of the school record holding 4x100-meter relay team that ran a time of 45.6 in 2003.
Railsback completed her undergraduate studies at ISU obtaining a bachelor’s degree in mass communications; she is currently working on her graduate thesis to complete her graduate degree of master’s in physical education in athletic administration. Railsback is also a two-time Big Sky All-Conference Academic honoree.
“We’re very excited to add Michelle to our staff,” said Mercogliano. “Michelle spent last year with our office as a graduate intern, and she proved that she has a real talent for this field. You put her writing ability and her P. skills together with the fact that she was eight-time letter winner for Dave Nielsen in track, plus she earned her undergraduate here, and in December her graduate degree here from Idaho State University, and anyone can see that she was a natural person to hire in this position.”
