Canfield Moves to Ass't Post at RPI
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Director of Athletics Ken Ralph has
announced the hiring of Amie Canfield as the sports information assistant.
A former assistant in the office of athletic communications at the
University of Vermont, Canfield is the first full-time assistant in
Rensselaer’s sports information department. She will work with Kevin
Beattie, RPI’s sports information director.
“We are excited to have Amie on board,” said Ralph. “Her expertise will
not only benefit the athletics department, but the entire Rensselaer
community, especially our student-athletes and the alumni.”
A native of St. Johnsbury, Vt., Canfield spent the last three years at
Vermont working primarily with both the men’s and women’s ice hockey
programs. Originally a member of the statistical crew working for several
sports, including men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s
lacrosse, and men’s and women’s ice hockey, she took on a more in-depth
role as an assistant to the directors the following seasons. Among her
responsibilities were daily office duties and game-day management of both
ice hockey programs.
In the 2002-2003 season, Canfield acted as an ECACHL team correspondent
for USA College Hockey Magazine, writing a bi-weekly article about Vermont
’s women’s ice hockey program. Her work included player profiles,
community work and various achievements by the team. Her article on
former All-American goaltender Tiffany Hayes was featured in the February
2003 issue.
Canfield has also served as a member of the media/statistical crews for
various tournaments and championships, including the 2004 America East Men
’s Basketball Championship, the 2003 Sheraton/Banknorth Hockey Classic,
and as the leader of the statistical crew for the 2005 ECAC Hockey League
Quarterfinals.
Canfield, who graduated from Vermont in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in
English, also served as the team manager for the women’s ice hockey
program for four years.
