Ericson Named Ass't at Mercer

Steven Ericson has been named assistant sports information director at Mercer University. Ericson began his new duties effective Aug. 29, and will be responsible for all aspects of promoting women’s sports for the Bears, concentrating on women’s soccer, women’s basketball and softball during the 2004-05 season.

Ericson comes to Mercer after serving with the Atlanta Hawks media relations department and the Georgia State University Office of Sports Communications where he worked for more than two years. While at Georgia State, Ericson served as the primary contact for baseball and men’s soccer and most recently was the color commentator for the radio broadcasts of Panther baseball games. 

In addition to his role at Georgia State, Ericson also served as an intern for the Huntsville Stars baseball organization during the summer of 2003.

Ericson, a resident of Marietta, Ga., received his master’s degree from Georgia State in sports administration in 2003 and his bachelor’s degree in journalism from GSU in 2001.      

Mercer has also added Dan Recupero to the sports information staff as a graduate assistant for the upcoming season. Recupero, a native of Racine, Wis., joins the Bears’ staff after serving in the sports information department at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, where he worked with each of the Rangers’ 13 programs, specifically covering soccer, softball, baseball and basketball. As a member of the Parkside staff, he gained experience with all aspects of sports information, including stats, press releases, Web site maintenance and the design and publication of media guides.

Recupero earned his bachelor’s degree in sport and fitness management in 2004.
