Loras College has named Tim Calderwood as the new sports information director. Calderwood fills the opening left with the departure of Tom Galbraith, who accepted a position as the sports information director at Alabama A&M University.
A native of Elgin, Ill., Calderwood graduated from North Central College (Naperville, Ill.) with a bachelor's degree in broadcast communications in 2003 and is completing his master’s degree in athletic administration at Loras College. Calderwood worked in the sports information office for four years at NCC, also serving as a member of the swim team, journalist for the school newspaper and sports director at the student radio station (WONC, 89.1 FM). As a graduate assistant at Loras, Calderwood worked in the Loras sports information office in 2004-2005.
During his undergraduate studies, Calderwood was honored with an honorable mention by the Illinois College Press Association for sports writing and received second place at the Illinois Broadcaster’s Association Silver Dome Awards for small market radio play-by-play.
Calderwood’s professional experience with several sports teams includes serving as Web site intern for Chicago Blackhawks (NHL) in the 2003-04 season; communications intern for the Chicago Rush (Arena Football League) in the summer of 2001; official statistician for the Schaumburg Flyers (Northern League of Independent Baseball) from 2002-2004; and director of communications and play-by-play announcer for the Dupage Dragons baseball team in the summer of 2005.
Calderwood and his wife, Dana, live in Dubuque.
