Jacksonville University has hired Joel Lamp as assistant athletic director for media relations, Alan Verlander announced today. Lamp comes to JU after serving the past year as a publicist for the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour in Daytona Beach, where he helped coordinate interactions with the media at each stop on the LPGA Tour.Prior to the Tour, Lamp was the sports information director at Mercer University in 2004. During his time with the Bears, he also handled broadcasting for the department as the “Voice of the Bears”. Before taking the job at Mercer, Lamp began his career as the assistant director of sports information at Troy State University from 2000 to 2003.
Among his duties, Lamp served at the publicist for the Trojan men’s basketball program which won the Atlantic Sun Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2003. His work behind the scenes garnered national publicity for the Trojans as Troy State received votes in the AP and Coaches’ Top 25 poll during the year.
“We are fortunate to have a person with Joel’s experience join our staff,” Verlander said. “He has a great passion for media relations and will be a great fit here at Jacksonville University.”
Lamp, a native of Decatur, Ala., earned his bachelor’s degree in communications at Jacksonville State in 2001.
