CoSIDA Helps Its Own

In the wake of the disaster caused by Hurrican Katrina, the CoSIDA Board would like to challenge all of its members to make a financial donation to the 20 or 25 members of our organization who have been adversely affected.

Judy Willson, a member of the CoSIDA Board, and Alan Cannon, a CoSIDA Past President and current Board member, are compiling a list of those affected.  If anyone knows of someone who needs financial assistance due to Hurricane Katrina, please e-mail Judy or Alan, so they can be included on the list.

On the CoSIDA Full Board Conference Call September 8, the Board approved the purchasing of $400 gift cards from Wal-Mart or Target for the CoSIDA members who we know have been affected to this point.  The $400 gift cards for 25 members represents a $10,000 financial commitment from CoSIDA to assist its members.  We believe this will help provide some immediate assistance to help the members in need in the short term.

Now, the Board would like to challenge of all CoSIDA members to make a financial contribution to the affected members and in return, the Board will match 2-for-1 all contributions up to $50,000.  To make a contribution send a check payable to CoSIDA to Dave Wohlhueter at 202 Tudor Road, Ithaca, NY  14850, and write in the check’s memo section “Hurricane Katrina”.

In addition, for each $100 donation from a Board member, CoSIDA is going to make a $1,500 commitment to the fund.

We would like to challenge all members make contributions no later than Oct. 7, in order to get the members in need this contribution in a timely manner.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call a member of the Board.  We are at time where some of our members are in need of assistance and at this time we wish for each and every CoSIDA member to take a look at the mission statement of this organization:

“The purpose of this organization is to empower its members in their roles as sports information professionals.”
