Cascio Takes Ass't AD Post at Merrimack

Lisa Cascio has been named assistant athletic director/director of athletic media relations at Merrimack College, as announced today by Merrimack College athletic director Sean T. Frazier. Cascio will begin her duties at Merrimack on February 6, 2006.

"Lisa will be a tremendous addition to our staff," said Frazier. "Communications and media relations are key areas to the success of a college athletic department. I am confident Lisa will not only succeed in overseeing our media relations efforts, but will also be a valuable part of our administrative team."

Cascio comes to Merrimack from Boston College, where she has served as the assistant athletic director/media relations for the past five years. There, she has been responsible for coordinating the production of numerous media guides, has served as the primary contact for Boston College womens basketball, field hockey, and softball and was co-manager of football press box operations.

"I am thrilled to join Sean and the rest of the athletics staff at Merrimack College," said Cascio, who is a native of nearby Lawrence, Mass.  "I am impressed with the sense of family at Merrimack and look forward to becoming a member of this close-knit group.  This exciting opportunity to lead the Merrimack Media Relations office and to return to my hometown area is a chance of a lifetime."

Prior to her position at Boston College, Cascio spent five years at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. While at Old Dominion, she assumed the day-to-day media responsibility for several sports. During her time there, she progressed from a graduate intern to assistant director of sports information. Cascio served as the primary contact for the nationally-ranked Lady Monarch basketball team as well as the nine-time national champion field hockey team.

Throughout her career in college athletics, Cascio has served as media coordinator for numerous national, regional and conference events, including several NCAA championships. Prior to Old Dominion, Cascio worked at the Haverhill (Mass.) Gazette as the assistant sports editor for two years. Cascio started her career as a student assistant in the sports information office at Holy Cross and was also student coordinator of the intramural program.

A four-year letter winner in softball, she graduated with a degree in English from Holy Cross in 1993.  She recently completed her Masters degree at Boston College.
