Jared Florreich, formerly an Assistant Director of Athletic Media Relations at the University of Southern Mississippi, was named Assistant Director for Communications with the Southland Conference, today. Florreich will be responsible for womens soccer, womens basketball and softball, along with other duties assigned.
We are very pleased to announce that Jared has joined the Southland Conference staff, league commissioner Tom Burnett said. He comes to the Southland office with a great deal of expertise and his media services efforts will benefit our league and our member institutions.
Florreich replaces Debbie Davis, who left to take a similar job with Conference USA.
Im excited to come to the Southland Conference, especially since one of my professional goals has been to work for a league office, Florreich said. Im thankful for the opportunity and cant wait to work hard to promote the league and its member schools.
At Southern Miss, Florreich was the primary secondary contact for football, also serving as the main contact for womens soccer and softball, in addition to assisting in the day-to-day operation of the Athletic Media Relations Office.
During the 2006 softball season, Florreich served as the play-by-play broadcaster for the majority of softball games. He assisted with the Southern Miss baseball team at the 2006 Tuscaloosa Baseball Regional, and with the football team at the 2004 and 2005 New Orleans Bowls. His 2005 softball media guide was ranked as one of the top-five nationally by Easton Sports. Florreich also served as the Managing Editor of the Screamin Eagle newspaper, the official publication of Southern Miss Athletics and helped maintain the schools official web site, SouthernMiss.com.
Prior to that, Florreich served as the Sports Editor at the Student Printz at Southern Miss for two years. He received several awards from the Mississippi Press Association for writing, also working in the Southern Miss Athletic Media Relations Office as a volunteer assistant, serving in a variety of roles with the sports of football, mens and womens basketball and baseball.
Florreich is a two-time graduate of Southern Miss, earning a Radio, Television and Film degree in 2003 and a Journalism degree in 2004. While at Southern Miss, Florreich interned at WDAM-TV for a semester in 2002 and at the Meridian Star in the summer of 2002. Florreich also served as a two-year stringer for the Hattiesburg American.
A native of Meridian, Miss., Florreich is an active member of the College Sports Information Directors of America, serving as a District Coordinator on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Committee. HE is the son of Dennis and Lynn Florreich and has a brother Ryan, who works with JBHM Architecture in Jackson, Miss. He will complete his masters degree in sports administration in December.
