Sweeney Named Ass't AD at Seton Hall

Matt Sweeney been named the Assistant Athletic Director for Communications at Seton Hall, Director of Athletics and Recreational Services Joseph A. Quinlan, Jr., announced on Tuesday.

Sweeney will oversee all aspects of the athletic communications office, including the management of the official Seton Hall athletics website, the oversight of all athletic department publications, the maintenance of historical records for the department and handle all athletic communications aspects for the mens basketball program.

I am excited to have Matt return to Seton Hall to lead our communications efforts, Quinlan said. The combination of his experience and wide network of local and national media contacts will provide us with a great resource to position our overall athletics program.

Sweeney comes to Seton Hall after serving as the Director of Special Projects at The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame since 2001. While at the NFF, Sweeney was involved in all aspects of public relations, including web page creation and maintenance, the distribution of press releases and feature stories and he also served as a speaker at various local chapter banquets and events. In working closely with athletic departments across the country, Sweeney was involved extensively in organizing on-campus salutes for new Hall of Fame inductees and he planned the foundations annual Award Luncheon and black-tie Awards Dinner held in New York City.

Sweeneys other responsibilities included acting as Director of the NFFs National Scholar-Athlete program, while also serving as an assistant in tabulating the weekly Bowl Championship Series (BCS) Standings and organizing and researching for the College Football Hall of Fame selection process.

Sweeney graduated from Seton Hall in 2000 and served as the Sports Information Intern during the 2000-01 year. He currently serves as the District II Football Coordinator for the Academic All-America Program, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. He is also an active member of the United State Basketball Writers Association, the Football Writers Association of America, the American Football Coaches Association and USA Track & Field. Sweeney has also worked with the Newark Bears, the New Jersey Cardinals and New Jersey Nets, as well as, WSOU 89.5 FM while an undergraduate at Seton Hall.
