Hartwick College Director of Athletics Debbie Warren announced the hiring of John Gilger as the schools Sports Information Director.
Gilger, a native of Oil City, Pa., returns to the field after a three-year hiatus. Before leaving the field, he spent 12 years in the profession as an intern, as an assistant and as a head SID.
We are pleased to have John join the Hartwick family, said Warren. He brings a wealth of experience to the program and possesses a strong work ethic. He hit the ground running right from the start when he arrived. We are indeed fortunate to get someone with Johns credentials to lead our athletic departments publicity efforts.
Prior to leaving the field to explore other personal interests, Gilger worked seven months as an Assistant Managing Editor at Host Communications. His last stint in the profession occurred from 1999-2003 when he served as the head SID at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, where he launched the media relations efforts for a then newly formed Division I program from scratch. Before that, he was an assistant SID at East Tennessee State and New Mexico State, and served internships at then Southwest Texas State and East Carolina.
Im pleased that Debbie Warren has afforded me this opportunity to join the staff at Hartwick College, said Gilger. Her energy and vision was one of the main things that attracted me to this position. I enjoyed the visit and I felt Hartwick had many things I was looking for with regards to potentially jumping back into the field. The campus, the town, the area, and the people were no doubt strong selling points.
Gilger, who received a bachelors degree in mass communications from the University of Denver in 1990 and a masters in Sports Administration from St. Thomas University (Fla.) in 1994, replaces Dave Caspole, who took a job at Westfield State in September.
