NCAA Offering Career Connections

Do you have student workers or interns hoping to break into the field of intercollegiate athletics?

Do you currently or will you have positions in your athletics department to fill in 2007?

Then this is an opportunity you cant miss!

My name is Jaye Pearlman and I have been charged with the responsibility of overseeing the 2007 NCAA Career Connections networking event and job fair, which will be held January 4-5 in conjunction with the NCAA Convention in Orlando.  I would like to invite you to participate in and help get the word out about this unique opportunity.

For the past three years, Career Connections has provided a service to the NCAA membership by offering an employment recruiting resource for athletics departments.

Career Connections will be an opportunity for you to interact with students and recent graduates who are interested in continuing their education or getting a job within the world of intercollegiate athletics. It also provides an opportunity for students to network with prospective employers and mentors.

For the greatly reduced fee of $25, students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a full day of professional development programming, an intercollegiate athletics focused job fair, and a networking reception. Career Connections also provides the opportunity to attend NCAA Convention sessions that are otherwise closed to the public.  This will be an invaluable learning experience providing insight into the issues and topics currently affecting intercollegiate athletics.

I encourage you to share this information with students you know who are interested in pursuing a career in sports and anyone from your staff - whether they have a job opening or not - who might be interested in participating in Career Connections

What are people saying about Career Connections?
"The NCAA Convention is the optimal place to network with administrators involved in all areas of college athletics. During the 2005 convention, I met people who ended up offering me a position for an amazing internship. A career in college athletics revolves around networking and maintaining meaningful relationships and the NCAA Convention is a great place to start building your network."
          -Kelly Jordan (2005-06 NCAA Intern)
"It was a very good event.  We were able to hire one individual on a part-time basis as a mentor in our academic support services area.  She has done a nice job...It was a first-class event in my opinion."
-Ed Howat (Purdue University Assistant Athletics Director, Student Services)
"With the job market as competitive as it is in sports administration, Career Connections was a huge part of my success in finding the right job.  The program was a great springboard for getting back into the job market.  It allowed me to see who was hiring, but also allowed me to get an idea of who else was out there searching for jobs.  I met my current employer at the Career Connections Job Fair last January.  I had a chance to visit with their representatives prior to their official posting of the position.  When Mitchell College received my application a month later, they had a face to go along with the resume.  Colleges and Universities receive hundreds of applications for openings.  Career Connections gave me an opportunity to stand out early in the process."
-Stacy Kelly (Associate Director of Athletics, Mitchell College)
