For much of its existence, CoSIDA has presented awards to the best in its profession, those who have been trendsetters and trail blazers and those who have given longtime service to the sports information profession.
These awards have focused on the past and those who have set the foundation for our organization and the professional. Now, the CoSIDA Board aims to honor those who will continue to build the foundation for years to come.
At last Julys workshop in Philadelphia, the board approved creation of the Rising Star Award. The honor is designed to honor young professionals who are dedicating themselves to the growth of CoSIDA and the sports information profession.
The world of sports information is changing, and there are many young people who are leaving for a variety of reasons, said CoSIDA President Joe Hernandez. One of those reasons is a lack of recognition of the fine work they do, whether it be on an institutional level or a national level.
With the creation of the Rising Star Award, we will recognize those young people who will be the future leaders of this organization. While an award is just a small thing, it is a way to show their hard work is recognized.
The Rising Star Award honors a University Division and a College Division member with 10 years of service or less whose work at their institution and service, dedication, energy and enthusiasm to the profession make that individual a "rising star" in sports information. In order to be officially recognized as part of CoSIDAs special awards program, the Rising Star Award must be approved as a constitutional change. Members will be able to approve this and other constitutional changes at the business meeting at the CoSIDA Workshop in Nashville.
The board, however, will present the Rising Star Award this year as an award for special merit, and is soliciting nominations of deserving individuals from both the University and College Division levels.
A nomination form is available below and under the Awards section of the CoSIDA Web site and must be returned to Blake Timm, College Division Representative, no later than Apr. 1. CoSIDA is proud and excited to be able to honor the young people who will be the future. Please help us recognize them by submitting a nomination.
