Carson-Newman's Curnutt Stepping Down

Carson-Newman Sports Information Director Marlin Curnutt will be stepping down on
July 31 to pursue other opportunities in higher education.

Curnutt has served as the SID at Carson-Newman since 1999 and has directed the
day-to-day operations of the office. He joined the C-N athletic staff after
serving as the assistant SID at Southeast Missouri from 1995 to 1999. A native
of Sweetwater, Tenn., Curnutt served as the SID at Hiwassee College for three
years and was also a student SID at Middle Tennessee State, his alma mater.

"After much prayerful consideration, I feel that I am being led in a new
direction. I have enjoyed my time at Carson-Newman and have many wonderful
memories of my time here. I look forward to what the Lord has planned for my
life," Curnutt said.

"There are many people I would like to thank as I prepare to leave C-N. I
thank Dr. Jim Netherton for the opportunity to serve here. The two people that
are closest to my heart are Courtney Walsh, my assistant and David Barger, my
superior.

"Courtney has been a loyal assistant and a wonderful friend. I have
counted on her help in running this office and I know that I could not have done
it without her. Also, I could not have asked for a better boss than David
Barger. He has assisted me in ways too numerous to count. His leadership in
directing this athletic department has been an inspiration to me and there are
no words that I could express to fully show my gratitude to him.

"I would alsolike to thank Dr. Moffat, Dr. Arrington and Joe Bill Sloan for allowing me to
teach History here at Carson-Newman. My time in the classroom at C-N has been
some of the most rewarding times of my life," Curnutt said.

Curnutt holds an associate's degree from Hiwassee, a bachelor's in political science from
Middle Tennessee State and a master's in history from Southeast Missouri State.
