Bobby Pope, Mercer University's sports information director from 1980-92, was inducted into the Macon (Ga.) Hall of Fame.
Very few people have been associated with athletics in Macon and Middle Georgia like Pope.
His influence spans over four decades starting at WMAZ in 1964. For nearly 20 years, Pope was a sports reporter, sports director and TV anchor at WMAZ. He called high school football and basketball games from 1965 to '72 and Mercer basketball games in 1970-1977 on WMAC radio.
He has hosted the Saturday Football scoreboard since 1976 and created, produced and hosted 'A Great Day in Sports' daily vignette program for eight years.
Since 1993, Pope has been heard on radio every morning and afternoon delivering a daily sports report. The Thomaston native became Mercer athletics director in 1989.
He has been a driving force in the Macon Touchdown Club for nearly three decades. Pope served as radio play-by-play announcer for the Macon Braves for 11 years.
