Former Indiana University Assistant Media Relations Director Jason Marsteller has joined Swimming World Magazines editorial staff. Marsteller has prior sports information experience at the University of Tennessee, Southern Utah University, and the Utah Summer Games in addition to relief stints as editor of CoSIDA.com.
Brent Rutemiller, who recently took on the title of Publisher for Swimming World Magazine, introduced Jason as the Executive Managing Editor for the company.
"Jason brings a 24/7 work ethic to the company that is vital to todays publishing market. He has a proven track record of getting breaking news out to the working media and general public that is core to our business," Rutemiller stated.
Pete Rhoda, IU's Sports Information Director, told Swimming World Magazine that Jason has all the skills to write his ticket anywhere. We are glad that Jason has the opportunity to advance his career with Swimming World Magazine.
Coach Ray Looze, Head Swimming Coach for Indiana University, also echoed high praise by saying Jason did an outstanding job promoting Indianas swimming.
"I am about as hard as a coach can be with expectations from my staff and media support. Jason handled everything I threw at him. He will be hard to replace."
"Jason has done excellent work filling in for me as editor of CoSIDA.com," said CoSIDA Director of Online Services Maxey Parrish. "When I've traveled out of the country the past few summers, I've just turned the whole thing over to him. Not only is his work on the Web site seamless, it flawless. He's been a true friend to me and servant to CoSIDA."
Dick Deal, Chairman of Sports Publications International, parent corporation of Swimming World Magazine, SwimmingWorldMagazine.com, SwimInfoWire, SwimmingWorld.TV and Swimmers Of America, was pleased with the selection after numerous candidates from around the country applied for the position.
"Jason will work well with our staff of national and international writers, coaches, clubs, athletes and governing bodies," said Deal.
Phil Whitten former Editor-in-Chief for Sports Publications International will continue to have strong ties with Swimming World Magazine as a member of a newly created Editorial Advisory Board. In his new position as the Executive Director for the College Swimming Coaches Association of America, (which officially starts July 1) Phil will continue to bring valuable perspectives to Sports Publications on important issues facing aquatic sports.
"It is important to note that Jason Marsteller was not hired to replace Phil. Phil Whitten is not someone who can be replaced by just one person," concluded Rutemiller.
