Matthew Faulkner (Sanford, Maine), a 2006 graduate of
the University of Massachusetts, has been named Saint Michael's College's
sports information intern for the 2006-07 school year.
Faulkner will assist with all public and media relations facets for the
College's 21 NCAA Division II intercollegiate varsity sports programs. He
will work primarily with men's and women's ice hockey during the winter
season, and will culminate his internship by serving as the College's
primary sports information contact during the spring 2007 sports season.
Faulkner is expected to begin his duties with Saint Michael's on Aug. 21,
and will complete his nine-month internship in May 2007.
Faulkner graduated from the University of Massachusetts in May, where he
was a Dean's List member and received his bachelor of science degree in
sports management from the Isenberg School of Management. Faulkner spent
the spring 2006 semester as an intern in the athletic media relations and
marketing departments at the University of Maine, where he contributed to
the publication of several media guides, wrote press releases, assisted
with in-game statistics, helped with marketing promotions, and was a
primary contact at the 2006 America East Conference Softball Championship.
Faulkner also spent the 2004-05 academic year as a student employee in the
UMass athletic department, working primarily at football and men's
lacrosse contests.
Outside of college, Faulkner has a wealth of experience as an intern and
statistician in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, working for
the Sanford Mainers from 2002 to 2004, and the Holyoke (Mass.) Giants last
summer. A member of the UMass Association of Student Sport Managers since
2002, Faulkner has also been a volunteer for the Key Players Project,
where he tutored young children at community centers in Springfield,
Mass., and at Soccerfest, a UMass-sponsored event.
