Tony Baldwin Moves to Madonna

Tony Baldwin has been named Sports Information Director at Madonna University.

Baldwin replaces Matt Fancett, who served as Madonnas sports information director for the last four years before being promoted to Assistant Athletic Director of Media Relations and Promotions.

"We are very pleased to get a person of Tony's caliber for this position," Director of Athletics Bryan Rizzo said. "His experience as a Sports Information Director and as a coach make him uniquely suited to handle the demands of the job.  In addition, he is an NAIA guy who understands the philosophy of Madonna Athletics.  He is going to be an outstanding addition to the staff."

Baldwin will assume SID duties for all 11 of Madonna's NAIA sports, taking over for Fancett who served that role for four years.  Baldwin will work in conjunction with Fancett on the Madonna athletic website and all media publications.  Fancett will oversee the operation of the SID office and assume other administrative roles within the department.

Prior to joining the Madonna staff, Baldwin served as Director of Sports Information at Concordia University in Ann Arbor, Michigan from July 2003 to June 2005 and most recently as head softball coach and intramurals director at Concordia this past year.
During his time at Concordia, Baldwin served as the sole media liaison for the athletic departments 10 varsity sports and oversaw a complete redesign of the athletic department website.

Baldwins first experience in the sports information field came as an undergraduate student at Concordia where he worked under Fancett during his stint as sports information director in Ann Arbor.

"I am extremely excited to be reunited with Tony," stated Fancett.  "I think he brings everything to the table we were looking for to keep the SID office here at the top of the pack.  Tony has a tremendous work ethic and knowledge of the SID field and is prepared to step in and continue running a top-notch office."

As a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Baldwin served twice as the contest coordinator for publications.  In 2003-04, Baldwin headed the conference publication contest and in 2004-05, he led the Division A womens soccer contest for CoSIDA.

Baldwin assisted Oakland University in March 2006 by serving as a member of the statistics crew at the NCAA Division I Mens Basketball Championship First and Second Rounds held at The Palace in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

"I am anxious and excited to join the staff at Madonna," stated Baldwin.  "It is a great opportunity to work for an outstanding University and a well respected athletic department on a local, regional and national level.  I look forward to working with Matt and Mr. Rizzo to uphold the level of professionalism and respect they have build in the SID office at Madonna."

Baldwin is a 2003 graduate of Concordia University-Ann Arbor with a bachelor's degree in Communication and completed his senior project titled Crisis Communication in Small College Athletic Departments.
