Bryden Takes Assistant Post at Washington
Jason Bryden has been named the full-time Assistant
Sports Information Director at Washington College. Bryden, who most
recently worked as a contributing writer for The Oneonta (NY) Daily Star,
held previous sports information positions at University at Albany and
Southern Connecticut State University.
Bryden got his start in sports information as a student assistant at SUNY
New Paltz. After earning a B.A. in Public Relations from New Paltz in
2001, Bryden spent two years working in finance administration for NBT
Bancorp in Norwich, NY. In August 2003, Bryden returned to sports
information when he began a one-year tenure as an intern at Southern
Connecticut State. At Southern Connecticut State, he performed a wide
variety of duties, including serving as a statistician for field hockey,
soccer, lacrosse, basketball, baseball, and softball, and working at four
conference and regional championship events.
From Southern Connecticut State, Bryden moved on to Albany, where he spent
two years in the athletic media relations office. He spent his first year
at Albany as a media relations assistant and his second as the head
statistician. While at Albany, he served as the primary media contact for
softball and men's and women's soccer, served as the statistician for
soccer, basketball, and softball, and assisted with several other facets
of the athletic media relations office. Bryden worked at four America East
and NCAA Division I Tournament events while at Albany.
A member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)
and the Eastern College Athletic Conference Sports Information Directors
Association (ECAC-SIDA), Bryden began covering high school athletic events
for The Oneonta Daily Star in May.
"I am thrilled that Jason is joining our sports information team,"
remarked Washington College Sports Information Director Phil Ticknor. "His
experience, skills, enthusiasm, and dedication to sports information and
collegiate athletics will enhance our status as a top-notch sports
information office."
Bryden is the first full-time Assistant Sports Information Director in
Washington College history. The WC Sports Information Office consisted of
a full-time Sports Information Director and several student assistants
until last year, when Ryan Griswold served as the school's first Assistant
SID in an internship capacity. Griswold has moved on to Haverford College,
where he will serve as the Sports Information Director this year.
