CoSIDA will make its first-ever visit to Marco Island, Fla., when the organization conducts its annual Convnetion in 2011. Based on the recommendation of CoSIDA's Site Selection Committee and approval by the Board of Directors and at the annual business meeting, the Marco Island Marriott has been named as the host property.
The Marco Island proposal offered a room rate of $145 for single or double with Convention dates of June 26-29, 2011. The rate will be extended for two days before and after the workshop.
The Marco Island Marriott is nearing the end of a $130 million renovation project. By the time CoSIDA arrives in 2011, all of the hotel guest rooms will have been renovated and set-up with new furniture. The property includes two pools and eight acres of private outdoor beach space. There is a 24,000 square-foot Balinese-Style Health Spa with 24 treatment rooms.
The Marco Island Marriott also features world-class golf at The Rookery, a 7,100-yard course with a 75.1 championship rating. A new $8 million clubhouse which features a steakhouse has recently opened.
While conducting a site visit, CoSIDA Site Selection Committee chair Pete Moore (Syracuse) was presented with a $10,000 check by Marco Island Marriott general manager Rick Medwedeff (above). The check was a commitment by the hotel to take $10,000 off the final convention bill if CoSIDA selected the Marco Island Marriott as its site for the 2011 Workshop.
The hotel's recreation department offers a number of activities including kayak, pedal boat and mini-boat rental, shelling excursions and aqua slimnastics.
