Arkansas State Hires Jerry Scott

Jerry Scott has joined the Indians athletic staff as the assistant athletic director for sports information, Arkansas State Director of Athletics Dr. Dean Lee has announced.

Along with a staff of two assistants, Scott will manage all of the information services and media requests for the Arkansas State athletic department and its 16 varsity sports. Scott is a familiar face within ASUs conference after spending the last seven years as a member of the athletic media relations staff at the Univ. of North Texas, a member of the Sun Belt Conference since 2000.

"We are delighted to have somebody with Jerrys knowledge and experience to join our senior staff," said Lee. "He comes to ASU with high recommendations from the conference and the conference office for his leadership skills and ability."

Scott's primary responsibilities at North Texas included overseeing the publicity efforts for mens basketball, volleyball, swimming and diving and tennis. Scott was also highly involved in the publicity efforts for the football team, serving as the secondary contact for the sport.

He served as the interim sports information director at North Texas during 2001, was a member of the universities athletic hall of fame committee and was active in several national and regional award campaigns for the schools athletic programs and its student-athletes.

"I am extremely excited about the opportunity to come to Arkansas State," said Scott. "I look forward to working with Dr. Lee, a great athletic staff and an outstanding group of coaches. Arkansas State is surrounded by a great community in Jonesboro and certainly has a lot of great things happening during a very exciting time for ASU athletics."

Scott is a 1998 graduate from Tarleton State University. (Stephenville, Texas), where he served as a student assistant with the sports information office.
