Cannon Adds Navor to Texas A&M Staff

Marlene Navor has been named assistant sports information director at Texas A&M, Associate Athletics Director/Media Relations Alan Cannon said Monday.

Navor will serve as the primary contact for the nationally-ranked women's basketball and men's tennis programs.

"Marlene is an impressive young sports information professional with a great deal of experience with women's basketball and tennis," Cannon said. "She is a great addition to our award-winning staff."

Navor served as an assistant SID at Kansas State for the last three years.

She handled publicity efforts for the women's basketball program which won the Big 12 Conference title in 2003-04 and the Postseason WNIT Championship title in 2005-06.

While working with one of the nation's largest media contingencies which cover women's basketball on a daily basis, Navor promoted two Kodak and AP All-Americans, two Big 12 Player of the Year honorees, two John R. Wooden and Naismith National Player of the Year Award finalists and three WNBA Draft picks.

She also worked with the women's rowing and women's tennis programs.

Prior to Kansas State, Navor worked as an assistant SID at UNLV from 2001-03, where her women's basketball media guide cover earned "Best In the Nation" distinction by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Three of her women's basketball media guides have placed in the top 12 nationally, including a "Second in the Nation" and "First in the District"

finish in 2004-05. In all, she has handled the media relations efforts for two women's basketball teams which advanced to postseason play five times, five current WNBA players and three All-Americans.

A 2000 graduate of the Edward R. Murrow School of Communication at Washington State, Navor earned her bachelor's degree in communication with an emphasis in print journalism and a minor in sport management. She served as a student assistant in the WSU sports information office for four years and later completed an internship at the University of Connecticut.

A native of Olympia, Wash., Navor is a member of the CoSIDA Job Seekers Committee as well as the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA). She is the daughter of Martin and Maxine Navor, who are both originally from the Big Island of Hawaii.
