Eddie Kenny has been named assistant athletic director for external operations/sports information director at Saint Leo University, it was announced by Director of Athletics Francis X. Reidy. Kenny joined Saint Leo on July 24, 2006.
Kenny replaces Walt Riddle as sports information director. Riddle resigned his full time position as SID/athletic marketing director after five years, June 30, but will remain with the athletic department in a part-time position working with marketing and other projects assigned by Reidy.
Kenny has been sports information coordinator for Sunshine State Conference member school Nova Southeastern University, located in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for the past three years. Prior to this he served a one-year internship at Nova in the Sports Information Department from 2002-03. He was media relations coordinator for the Miami Fusion of Major League Soccer from 2001-2002.
He also was a staff writer for the Miami Fusion from 1999-2001 and managed web sites of the Miami Fusion and the Florida Panthers for Rivals.com from 2000-2001.
Eddie is a great fit for us, said Reidy. He is a talented writer, knows Division II and our conference. He will be able to hit the ground running, which is important with the strength of our fall sports.
Eddie has the complete skill set for todays sports information director-web site design, in-game statistics, strong writing, internet broadcast background and a passion for his profession.
Kenny earned his Associate Degree from Broward Community College in Davie, Fla., in 2000, his Bachelors Degree in Communications from Florida International University in Miami, Fla., in 2003 and his Masters Degree in Education/Sport Management from Nova Southeastern in 2005.
