Morehead State Adds Two Staffers

The Morehead State Athletic Media Relations Office has announced that Jason Ashcraft and Jason Blanton have joined the office for 2006-2007. Ashcraft will be the primary contact for womens soccer and mens and womens tennis, while Blanton - who is also a staff writer/media coordinator in MSUs Office of University Communications - will serve as the contact for cross country/track and field and rifle.

We are excited about the addition of these two to our staff, said Athletic Media Relations Director Randy Stacy. As we continue to receive increased exposure through the media and with our expanding Web site and overall branding campaign, the addition of Jason and Jason will help us become more efficient in our office operations and help us streamline assignments so we can take full advantage of every traditional and multi-media opportunity to promote Morehead State athletics. Their knowledge and familiarity with Morehead State athletics will be an asset for us this year.

Ashcraft is a 2004 graduate of Morehead State with a bachelors degree in communications. From January-September 2005, he was a sports writer for the Maysville (Ky.) Ledger-Independent. As an undergraduate, he was a staff member of the Morehead State Trailblazer newspaper and was also a staff assistant with the MSU NewsCenter. He is currently working on a masters degree in sport management at MSU. His wife Jessica is a hall director of East Mignon Residence Hall at MSU.

In addition to his sport assignments, Blanton will also serve as a coordinator for the Eagle Sports Radio Network. He has served as the play-by-play announcer of the Lady Eagle basketball team since 1998 and also currently is in the role of commentator for Eagle football broadcasts. He has also broadcasted Eagle mens basketball, baseball and softball in the past.

Blanton is a 2002 graduate of Morehead State. Prior to his appointment at Morehead State, he served as a play-by-play announcer for Pikeville College athletics from 1995-98. A native of Oil Springs, Ky., he has a five-year-old daughter, MariGrace.
