Morton Handling Track, Sports Information at Dicksonson State

Galen Morton, the assistant track and cross-country coach at Occidental College in Los Angeles, Calif., has been hired as the Sports Information Director and Assistant Track and Cross-Country Coach at Dickinson State University. Morton, a graduate of Occidental College with both bachelor's and master's degrees, has 15 years of coaching experience in track and cross-country.

"I am very excited to be part of the Dickinson State University team," said Morton. "My experience during the entire process was incredible; I always interacted with such efficient, kind people."

"We were looking for an enthusiastic professional with experience and I believe we found that in Galen," says Dickinson State University Athletic Director Roger Ternes. "He brings with him a wealth of knowledge, especially with middle-distance and distance runners. He also has experience with media guides and record keeping."

"My experience at Occidental College prepared me thoroughly and now it is with great enthusiasm that I focus my energies to the tasks at handsurrounded by such wonderful and professional colleagues, dedicated students and a warm and supporting community," added Morton.

In addition to his coaching duties at Occidental College, Morton taught biology at two area high schools.

"Dickinson State University will remain at the upper echelon in track and field and cross-country," said Coach Morton. "And as the new Sports Information Director, it will be a pleasure to help all of our fans and families follow the Blue Hawks."

Morton began his new responsibilities July 24. He replaced Duane Monlux as he will begin teaching Physical Education classes at Dickinson State University.
