USC Aiken Picks Wiechers as Ass't SID

Nathan Wiechers has been named USC Aikens Assistant Sports Information Director, the University announced on Monday.  Wiechers will begin his duties this week, taking over for Lindsey McNeil who left USCA for a position with an Atlanta based professional sports marketing firm.

Wiechers, a native of Napoleon, Ohio, graduated from Bowling Green State University this August with his Bachelors of Science degree in Sports Management with an emphasis in Sports Information.

I think this is a great opportunity and I am eager to join, not only the athletic department, but the community of Aiken as well, said Wiechers.

During his time as an undergraduate, the former high school basketball player served as a volunteer student manager for the Bowling Green mens basketball team for three seasons.  In addition, Wiechers completed a practicum in the BGSU athletic department under the supervision of JD Campbell, Assistant AD and Sports Information Director.

Most recently, Wiechers concluded his season-long internship with the Toledo Mud Hens, the AAA minor league affiliate of Major League Baseballs Detroit Tigers.

I feel very fortunate to have someone of Nathans caliber joining the USC Aiken sports information office, said Brad Fields, Assistant AD for Communications.  Nathan brings a strong academic background, seasoned on-the-job experience, and an impressive work ethic.  His warm personality and desire to work in college athletics will make for a nice fit for USC Aiken athletic department.

At USCA, Wiechers will serve as the primary contact for softball and mens and womens tennis, assist with mens basketball, and provide support with the other sports.

USC Aiken is a proud member of the NCAA Division II and the Peach Belt Conference and is the home of the three-time defending NCAA Division II Mens Golf National Champions.
