Michael Coyne has been named Assistant Director of Communications of the Big East Conference, Commissioner Michael Tranghese announced.
Coyne comes to the Big East from Providence College, where he spent two years as a graduate assistant in the Athletic Media Relations Office. While at Providence, he worked with the volleyball and swimming & diving programs, in addition to assisting with men's basketball. Prior to arriving at PC, Coyne spent time as the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at Bryant University from 2002-03, and as a media relations assistant in the UMass Media Relations Department during the 2003-04 academic year.
At the Big East, Coyne will be the primary contact for women's soccer and women's lacrosse, while assisting with women's basketball and other communications duties.
"We're very happy to add Michael to our conference communications staff," said Tranghese. "He possesses a broad range of communications experiences and comes to us highly regarded from Providence College. Michael has the talent and work ethic to excel in his new role."
Coyne is a 2002 graduate of the University of Massachusetts, where he majored in Sport Management. A native of East Longmeadow, Mass., he went on to earn his MBA at Providence College in May, 2006.
