James Zuhlke has been named sportsiInformation director at West Chester University, Director of Athletics, Dr. Edward M. Matejkovic, recently announced. Zuhlke joins the athletic departments staff from West Point, where he spent the last seven years as an assistant director of athletic communications at Army.
Jim comes to us with a great background and will help fill the void created when 16-year veteran Tom DiCamillo left in November. He has the experience to continue to help us move our program forward. Matejkovic said.
The 10-year veteran of media relations in intercollegiate athletics will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of the universitys sports information office and promoting its 24 NCAA varsity programs.
During his stint with the Army Athletic Association, Zuhlke (35) served as the primary contact for the men's soccer, mens ice hockey and nationally ranked men's lacrosse squad, along with all design and layout responsibilities for the 16-page change section of the Army Football Game Day program. He also served as the statistician at all home football games as well as three Army-Navy contests. Other tasks included maintenance of the Army sports record book as well as handling publication purchase requests for the Office of Athletic Communications. Zuhlke also oversaw the production of the Hall of Army Sports Hall of Fame video presentation at each years induction banquet.
In all, Zuhlke served with 13 of the academys 25 intercollegiate athletic programs. In his tenure as a member of Army's award-winning athletic communications staff, he was cited for six CoSIDA publication awards. Most recently, his 2006 men's lacrosse media guide copped second in the nation honors, while also capturing Best Cover accolades.
A 1999 graduate of SUNY College at Cortland, Zuhlke joined Armys office after spending one year at Sacred Heart University (Conn.) as an intern in their athletic communications office during the 1999-2000 academic year. There, he played a significant role on the sports information staff during that university's transition to the Division I level, serving as the contact for six Olympic sports.
A native of Vestal, N.Y., Zuhlke graduated from Cortland State with a bachelor's degree in Physical Education and a concentration in sport management.
A member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), ECAC-SIDA and U.S. Lacrosse, Zuhlke received his first of two bachelor's degrees from Utica College of Syracuse University in 1995, majoring in Speech Communication with a minor in history.
