Norfolk State Adds Karen Carty as Assistant

Norfolk State University sports information director Matt Michalec announced on Thursday that Karen Carty has been named assistant sports information director.

Carty has assisted on a part-time basis in the NSU sports information office for the last two years. She will continue to assist in the day-to-day operations of the sports information office, the publication of media guides, and the coordination of game day operations, with a focus on NSUs womens sports teams.

Karen has done an excellent job the past two years in our office, and we are fortunate to have her join our staff full-time, Michalec said. She has quickly familiarized herself with the workings of the NSU athletics department and the athletics public relations industry, and she will continue to be an asset to NSU.

Carty graduated summa cum laude with a bachelors degree in general business with an emphasis in marketing from NSU in 2004. She was a member of the womens tennis team and was named to the 2004 MEAC Commissioners All-Academic team. She is also a lifetime member of Golden Key International Honour Society and Beta Gamma Sigma, an honor society for business majors.

The St. Croix, Virgin Islands native is currently pursuing her masters degree in sports management through the distance-learning program at the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Ala.
