2007 AAA Hall of Fame Inductee Named Manager of N.Y. Yankees
Joe Girardi, who was inducted into the CoSIDA Academic All-America Hall of Fame July 1 in San Diego, has been named the manager of the New York Yankees.
Girardi, the first former major league baseball player to be inducted into the AAA Hall of Fame, embarked on a lengthy playing career with the Yankees, Cardinals and Cubs after graduating from Northwestern University in 1985. In 2006, he was named the National League Manager of the Year after leading the Florida Marlins.
It’s the second major honor earned by a member of the AAA Hall of Fame Class of 2007 since the induction ceremony. In August, Julie Foudy was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
