About the Woody Hayes National Scholar-Athlete AwardsSix nationally selected outstanding scholar-athletes will receive the Woody Hayes National Scholar-Athlete Awards. These awards are presented to the outstanding male and female scholar-athlete in each of the three collegiate divisions. A panel of eminently qualified judges selects the awardees. The University and Northwest Sertoma Club, by honoring these six scholar-athletes, seeks to establish a perpetual living memorial to Coach Woody Hayes with these awards being presented annually.
The criteria for selection requires that the individual:(1) be nominated by his/her Sports Information Department, (2) demonstrate leadership in one or more varsity sports, (3) demonstrate excellence in an academic field or endeavor, (4) demonstrate leadership in a socially responsible organization of activity organized to serve mankind, and (5) exemplify strong moral character.
All net proceeds from the banquet will be distributed to a Hayes family designated charity and to Sertoma charities, which include local and national speech and hearing disability programs, cancer research programs, programs for autistic children and children with learning disabilities. The 2008 Woody Hayes National Scholar-Athlete awards will be presented on Friday, January 25th at the Villa Milano Restaurant, 1620 Schrock Road in Columbus. For ticket information call Robert E.
