Former Truman State SID Melissa Ware Passes Away

Melissa Ware, former Truman Sports Information Director, passed away on Friday night at a hospital in Chicago, Ill. Ware was 42-years old.

She was a 1982 graduate of Webster Groves High School in St. Louis and a 1987 graduate of Truman State University.

She began working for the University full-time as Publications Coordinator and Office Manager in August of 1988 under Sports Information Director Bill Cable.

When Cable retired in 1995, Ware was named only the second SID at the school. She served in that capacity until May 2004.

Earlier that year, her husband John accepted the head football coaching position at Missouri Southern in Joplin. Coach Ware had been the head coach for the Bulldogs since 1995.

Ware has been the recipient of over 40 national awards for media guides from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

She was preceded in death by her husband John in 2005.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday Dec. 8th , at St.Michael the Archangel 7622 Sutherland Avenue in Shrewsbury, Mo. Friends may call at Bopp Chapel, 10610 Manchester Rd., Kirkwood, Mo. from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7th. Private Internment.
