Vazquez Named Asst. A.D. for Media Relations at Cal State Northridge

Cal State Northridge Athletic Director Rick Mazzuto announced the hiring of longtime Stanford Media Relations Director Bob Vazquez as Assistant Athletic Director in charge of Athletic Media Relations. Vazquez, who will oversee the publicity efforts of the Matadors' 20-sport intercollegiate athletic program, will begin his appointment at Northridge on February 12.

"I am delighted that Bob will become part of Matador Athletics," said Mazzuto. "His extensive experience and professionalism will enhance our media relations division."

Vazquez, a veteran of almost 30 years in the Athletic Media Relations field, has spent the past 24 years as the Athletic Media Relations Director at Stanford University. While at Stanford, Vazquez has been the media coordinator for numerous Pac-10 Championships as well as NCAA National and Regional Tournaments and has been the recipient of 20 press guide awards by CoSIDA. In addition, he received a CoSIDA 25-year Award at the 2003 workshop in Cleveland, Ohio.

Prior to Stanford, Vazquez spent six years as the Sports Information Director at UC Santa Barbara where he directed the intercollegiate publicity program. Prior to entering collegiate athletics, he held various positions in in the broadcasting industry.

Vazquez is a 1972 graduate of San Diego State University with a BS degree in Radio-Television Journalism.
