Former SID and Associate Athletic Director Fein Named College of Staten Island Director of Athletics

STATEN ISLAND, NY -- Former College of Staten Island Associate Athletic Director Jason Fein has been named the colleges new Director of Athletics. Fein, who has served in the acting director role since February of 2006, emerged from a pool of national candidates to replace Dr. Harold Merritt, who left the school last year for a similar position at the University of Washington, DC.

As the acting director and now in his current capacity, Fein will oversee operations of CSIs intercollegiate athletics and intramural programs, consisting of 13 varsity sports, and the Sports & Recreation Center facilities, including indoor and outdoor fields and services available to students and the community.

"After conducting a nationwide search, we are thrilled to have Jason appointed to this position", said Dr. Carol Jackson, Vice-President for Student Affairs.   "Jason has shown the leadership, motivation and dedication needed to serve in the best interests of our student-athletes, coaches, and the CSI community at-large.  We are pleased that everything has worked out this way, and are excited to be working alongside him."

A member of the CSI staff for nearly a decade, Fein began as the schools Assistant Director of Athletics & Sports Information Director in 1999.  In 2002, he was elevated to Associate Director before accepting the Acting Director of Athletics position just over a year ago.

Prior to his endeavors at CSI, Fein served for three years as Assistant Athletic Director & Sports Information Director at his alma mater, Brooklyn College.  After receiving his bachelors degree in athletic training and masters degree is sports management, he helped bring back the colleges intercollegiate Division III athletics program after the school had suspended their Division I program.

During his time at CSI, the Dolphins athletic programs have accounted for 23 CUNYAC Championships, and the school won its first and only CUNYAC Commissioners Cup, awarded for best overall athletic excellence, in 2001.  Fein served as the schools Head Womens Volleyball Coach for two years (2003-2004) and was an assistant coach with the schools womens basketball program for two years as well (2003-3005).  Fein has also played an instrumental role in organizing the annual CSI Alumni & Friends Golf Outing, as well as the CUNY Athletic Conference Goodwill Tour, which sends an all-star team overseas each summer for international competition.

"Obviously I am thrilled by the news," said Fein. " Its an honor to be given this opportunity to direct the program which has been such a huge part of my life for the past eight years.  We have a great team here and Im excited about the future. "

In July of 2006, Fein was honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) with their Inaugural Rising Star Award, given annually to a trailblazer among sports information professionals.  He also serves on the board of directors for the ECAC Sports Information Directors Association (ECAC-SIDA), and is currently the organizations first vice-president.   He envisions the CSI athletic program being one of excellence regionally and nationally.

"I feel weve only scratched the surface as far as what we can accomplish as a program," Fein said.  "As we make the transition to a residential campus, we are excited by the opportunities to make CSI a more dynamic and renowned NCAA Division III program."

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Fein currently resides in Dumont, New Jersey, with his wife, Cecilia, and son, Zachary.
