The University of Dayton may not be the host with the most, but UD is among the best at hosting basketball events.
"UD Arena is not as big or doesn't offer as many amenities as many of the other places that host," said William Thomas, assistant director of athletic communications. "But one of the things of why we host time after time after time is because of all the staff here."
On the athletic communications side, director Doug Hauschild, Thomas, assistant Jenny Storer and multimedia director Michael LaPlaca comprise the full-time staff. Plus, several students help out each week.
UD has been the only home of the NCAA tournament's opening-round (OK, play-in) game. The men's first and second rounds and women's regionals are routinely played at UD Arena.
"Doug's done this for so long that he goes to Indianapolis and tells other people who have never hosted before how to do it," Thomas said.
Along with their normal duties, the office is gearing up for the March 25-27 women's regional.
"We're expecting a lot of media for an exciting couple of days," Thomas said.
