JACKSON, Tenn. -- Monday morning longtime Jackson Area broadcaster and Lambuth Sports Information Director Dave McCulley and his wife Peggy lost their Trenton, Tenn. home to fire.
The TranSouth Athletic Conference family joins with the Lambuth University family in offering support during this time of need for the McCulley's. We wanted to pass along this unfortunate news in case others might want to contribute in our effort to help the McCulley's rebuild their lives in this time of great personal loss.
Dave, the 2005 Mid-South Conference Media person of the year, is one of the most loved members of the Jackson area media and is well respected for his work as the Lambuth Sports Information Director. McCulley has won numerous awards for his work over the years and was inducted into the Gibson County Sports Hall of Fame.
The Old English Inn in Jackson has agreed to provide lodging for the family for a few days until other arrangements can be made. Lambuth University is using this time to collect home nesting items they will need to relocate (bed linens, towels, etc.) and start building a new homestead.
If you would like to contribute please contact Hal Freeman (731.425.3217 or email freeman@lambuth.edu) at Lambuth University, Hal is managing the list of items being collected for the family. Any monetary contribution can be made by contacting Hal Freeman or by making checks payable to Dave McCulley and mailing them (or dropping them off) to: Lambuth University Business Office, 705 Lambuth Blvd., Jackson, TN 38301.
Lambuth University President Dr. R. Fred Zuker extends Lambuth's compassion for the McCulley family, "We are saddened to learn of the fire that destroyed Dave McCulley's home. Dave and his wife Peggy are both well-loved members of the Lambuth family, and we are keeping them in our thoughts and prayers."
A great example of McCulley's work beyond any job description is found in his current assistant sports information director at Lambuth. "Dave has taken me under his wing and I'm so grateful and we are saddened for his loss," commented Lambuth Assistant Sports Information Director Josh Pendergrass. "Dave had treated more as a son than a co-worker or boss, he has taken time with me like he has so many others, I'm grateful and hope we can repay him for all his great dedication over the years and help ease the pain of their loss."
"I've known Diamond Dave for around 20 years and consider him a mentor as so many others in broadcasting and sports information consider him to be," commented Trevecca Nazarene and TranSouth Sports Information Director Greg Ruff. "Dave is just one of the nicest people I've met and has been a tremendously positive influence over the years for so many while doing a unbelievable job in building the sports information office at Lambuth, we want to do all we can to replace the material things we can in an effort to soften the loss of the things they can't replace."
The family lost many memories through photographs and their dog was lost in the fire. Dave is a sports collector and has lost his vast sports memorabilia collection.
