Jamie Weir, sports information director/operations manager at Michigan State University, is the recipient of the College Sports Information Directors of America's 2007 Rising Star Award (university division).
CoSIDA's Rising Star Award annually goes to a member whose work at their institution and service, dedication, energy and enthusiasm to the profession make that individual a 'rising star' in sports information. Weir will be honored at CoSIDA's 50th Anniversary workshop in San Diego this summer.
Jamie Weir has been the sports information director/operations manager at Michigan State University since January 2006. At Michigan State, Weir oversees five full-time staffers, three interns and several students in a sports information office that manages the publicity for 25 varsity sports. She serves as the primary media relations contact for the Spartans' nationally-competitive men's ice hockey program that captured the 2007 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Championship. In her role as Operations Manager, Weir serves as the host media coordinator for Big Ten and NCAA Championship events, which includes the first and second rounds of the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship this past March and several Big Ten championships in the coming year.
Prior to joining the Michigan State staff, Weir spent seven and a half years in the athletic communications office at Harvard University. She served as the primary contact for several sports during her time with the 41-sport athletic department, most notably men's ice hockey, men's and women's rowing, and women's basketball. She played a key role in the development and maintenance of Harvard's official athletics Web site,
www.gocrimson.com. She also worked as the host media coordinator for several NCAA championship events, including being named the local media coordinator for the 2006 NCAA Women's Final Four, (co-hosted by Harvard and Northeastern University), prior to her departure.
Weir joined the Harvard staff after a two-year stint as an intern/assistant sports information director at St. Lawrence University, while at the same time serving as publicist for the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association, a nine-school Division III conference (now the Liberty League). Weir's career in sports information began as an undergraduate at SUNY Brockport, where she worked in the Office of Sports Information, Marketing and Promotions; she then completed a one-year internship at Union (NY) College before joining the St. Lawrence staff.
A native of Schenectady, New York, Weir is a 1995 graduate of SUNY College at Brockport with Bachelor of Science degree in communication studies with a concentration in sport management.

She has served on the CoSIDA Workshop Program Committee since 1999, helping to develop and present various panels and topics of discussion, and has most recently served on the organization's newly-formed Marketing committee. With ECAC-SIDA, Weir has been a panelist and has presented topics since 2001.
