Wohlhueter To Receive Kenworthy Award

Dave Wohlhueter, retired sports information director from Cornell and the College Sports Information Directors of America's treasurer since 1977, has been named the winner of CoSIDA's 2007 Bob Kenworthy Good Person Award. The Kenworthy Award annually goes to a CoSIDA member for civic involvement and accomplishments outside the sports information office.

Wohlhueter will receive his award at CoSIDA's 50th Anniversary workshop in San Diego this summer.

Wohlhueter was sports information director at Cornell from 1977-98.  During that time, he also worked with the U.S. Olympic Committee as a press liaison officer at the 1981 U.S. Olympic Sports Festival in Syracuse, the 1983 Pan American Games in Caracas, the 1987 Pan American Games in Indianapolis, and the 1993 World University Games in Buffalo.

He worked with the local organizing committees at the 1996 Olympic Summer Games in Atlanta, and the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City; and the 1998 Goodwill Games on Long Island, N.Y. In addition, Wohlhueter served as president of ECAC-SIDA in 1977-78 and president of the U.S. Collegiate Baseball Writers from 1983-85.

Wohlhueter has been a CoSIDA member since 1965 and has served the organization in a variety of capacities, in addition to his duties as treasurer. He was a College Division representative to the CoSIDA Board from 1975-77 and editor of the CoSIDA Directory from 1973-77.

Wohlhueter was CoSIDA's 1992 Arch Ward Award winner and is a member of the CoSIDA Hall of Fame, Ithaca College Sports Hall of Fame and the Cornell Athletics Hall of Fame. He earned the Wilbur C. Snypp Award from U.S. Collegiate Baseball Writers in 1997.

A native of Colden, N.Y., Wohlhueter is a 1960 graduate of Ithaca College (B.S. in radio-TV). He began his professional career selling advertising and doing sportscasts for WDOS Radio in Oneonta, N.Y. from 1960-61 and 1963-65. He served in the U.S. Army Band (1961-63) before becoming Ithaca College's first full-time SID in 1965. He then moved on to Bucknell University where was SID from 1967-77.

Among Wohlhueter's activities outside of the sports information profession are: member of the Ithaca Elks Club (editor of the monthly newletter); work at Elks Club annual Hoop Shoot for youngsters; sings in the St. Luke church choir, edits the church monthly newsletter, and serves on Finance Committee; serves on committee for American Cancer Society Mardi Gras; plays baritone horn in Ithaca Concert Band; secretary of Ithaca College Alumni Board; president of Cornell Hockey Association; chair of Cornell Hockey Coach's Club; member of Cornell Baseball Alumni Association Board; writes articles for Cornell Football Association Newsletter; edits Cornell Athletic Department Newsletter; secretary of Cornell Faculty Tennis Club; works part-time at the front desk of the Reis Tennis Center; works part-time with Momentummedia, publisher of Athletic Management, Coaching Management, and Training and Conditioning magazines.

Wohlhueter and his wife, Susan, have two children (Amy Patak of New Bern, N.C., and Alex Wohlhueter of Tampa, Fla.) and five grandchildren.
