Stanford's Arianna Lambie, Denison's Elaine Binkley Top 2006-07 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Women's Track/Cross Country Teams

Complete 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Women's Cross Country/Track & Field Teams

Arianna Lambie (Harvard, Mass.), a junior from Stanford University, and Elaine Binkley (Columbus, Ohio), a senior from Denison University, earned top honors on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All–America women's track & field and cross country teams announced Wednesday.

Lambie and Binkey earned Academic All-America of the Year honors in the University and College Divisions, respectively, and both were named to the Academic All-America first team

Lambie, a 10-time All-American, was part of the American record-setting 4 x 1,500-meter relay team, which won the 2006 Penn Relays. Owner of a 3.96 grade point average as an earth systems major, Lambie is three-time Pac-10 individual event champion.

Binkley, a three-time first-team Academic All-America honoree, was also recently selected for a prestigious NCAA postgraduate scholarship. The co-valedictorian of her graduating class at Denison and Rhodes Scholarship finalist, Binkley was a two-time All-America in cross country and a 12-time all-North Coast Athletic Conference selection in both cross country and track and field. Binkley, who produced a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average as a biology major, was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and will continue her education as a medical student at The Ohio State University this fall.

Joining Lambie and Binkley on the first team are seven repeat University Division and 10 College Division Academic All-Americans. Kirsten Andrews (U.S. Naval Academy), Lindsay Donaldson (Yale), Katie Erdman (Michigan), Jenny Green (Nebraska), Mandy Jenkins (Mount St. Mary’s), Becka Mansheim (South Dakota State) and Ashley Selig (Nebraska), all members of the University Division.  Representing the College Division are Angie Aguilar (Abilene Christian), Natalie Badowski (Washington (MO)), Hailey Harren (Gustavus Adolphus), Becca Kueny (Missouri-Rolla), Jessica Selby (Missouri Southern State), Jessica Trautwein (Minnesota State Moorehead), Meghan Voiland (Augustana (IL)), Katie Wieferich (The College of Wooster) and Natalie Wood (Texas Lutheran). Selig, one of three Nebraska athletes on the 2007 teams, Harren, Kueny, Selby, Trautwein and Voiland are repeat first team Academic All-Americas.

The other University Division first team members include Jane Daniels (Charlotte), Jessica Gall (Indiana), Laci Heller (Kansas State), Georgia Kloss (North Carolina), Gunild Kreb (Virginia Tech), Shannon Rowbury (Duke) and Kaylene Wagner (Kansas State).

The other College Division first team members include Rachel Anderson (Illinois Wesleyan), Meagan Bauer (Doane), Tanya Gaumer (Adams State), Ashley Johnson (Wilmington (OH)), Venessa Lee (Pittsburg State), Stephanie Nothelle (Case Reserve), Megan Rossi (North Central), Lisa Winkle (Calvin) and Sarah Zerzan (Williamette). 

Eleven of the 30 first-team selections have perfect 4.00 GPAs for their collegiate career, and 27 of the 90 total selections have been perfect in the classroom. Combined, the average GPA for the 31 first-teamers was a remarkable 3.89.

Kansas State and Nebraska led all University Division schools with three selections each. Calvin, Doane, and South Dakota led all College Division schools with two selections.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
