Dan Wallenberg named Asst. AD for Communications at Ohio State

Dan Wallenberg has been named Assistant Athletics Director for Communications at Ohio State. The announcement was made Friday by Tom Hof, senior associate athletics director for the Buckeyes.

“We are fortunate to have a person with Dan’s expertise and experience step into this position,” Hof said. “Dan knows Ohio State and will do a terrific job of overseeing one of our most important areas.”

Wallenberg has been a member of the athletics communications staff since 1998 and has served as the primary contact for men’s basketball. He also has been responsible for men’s tennis and men’s and women’s golf. He was promoted from assistant to associate director of athletics communications in 2002.

“I want to thank (Athletics Director) Gene Smith and Tom Hof for giving me this opportunity,” Wallenberg said. “I have been tutored over the years by some of the best in this business. Steve Snapp is leaving our area after more than 30 years. I appreciate his guidance over the last nine. He will be missed by the vast number of media members he has worked with across the country, as well as our staff and the Ohio State student-athletes and coaches, both past and present. I am confident the staff we have in place will continue to work diligently with the many media professionals who cover the Buckeyes to promote our student-athletes, coaches and teams.”

Prior to his original appointment at Ohio State, Wallenberg spent two years at Kansas State University (1996-98) after a three-year stint at Western Kentucky University (1993-96). After graduating from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale with a degree in journalism in 1989, he spent a year in the sports information office at SIU-C as an intern. The next three years were spent as the sports editor for daily newspapers (1990-92) in Marion (Daily Republican) and Harrisburg (Daily Register), Ill., before a return to collegiate media relations in 1992 as an intern at the University of Illinois.

A native of Calumet City, Ill., Wallenberg resides in Columbus.
