Southland Conference Announces Staff Changes
The Southland Conference has promoted Jared Florreich to director of media services, and has named Jimmy Glenn as assistant director of media services, league commissioner Tom Burnett announced Friday.
Florreich joined the Southland staff in September, 2006, as assistant director of communications, while Glenn served as the league’s media services intern in the 2006-07 academic year.
“We are very pleased to announce the promotions of Jared and Jimmy,” Burnett said. “Both of them are on their way to great careers in athletics administration, and we look forward to having them oversee a great deal of our media services effort.”
Florreich was previously on the athletics media relations staff at Southern Mississippi, where he also earned two bachelor’s degrees in Editorial Journalism and Broadcast Journalism. He is currently finishing up master’s degree requirements in Sport Administration at USM.
A native of Meridian, Miss., Florreich is an active member of the College Sports Information Directors of America, serving as a District Coordinator on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Committee. He is also a member of the Football Writers Association of America and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Prior to his internship with the Southland, Glenn was a student assistant in the sports information office at Texas-Arlington from 2003-05, and also served as a media assistant with the NHL’s Dallas Stars in 2005-06. He earned his mass communications degree from UTA in 2005.
On a related note, Bruce Ludlow, the Southland’s Associate Commissioner and long-time senior media relations staff member, will oversee football publicity in 2007, and then transition out of the league’s media department and into other conference operations.
“Bruce has been a key and valued member of our media operation for a long time,” Burnett added. “He also has developed great experience and skills in other areas of the Conference’s operation, such as overseeing our basketball and baseball tournaments, as well as gaining a vast knowledge of television production, and working more directly with coaches and other campus administrators.”
