Roanoke Names Moore as Director of Athletic Communications
Roanoke College Director of Athletics, Scott Allison, is proud to announce Brad Moore as the newest member of the Maroons’ athletics department. Moore will take over as the new Director of Athletic Communications/Events Manager, succeeding Chris Cummings who had previously held that position.
He will oversee publicity efforts for Roanoke’s 19 championship sports and will be responsible for production of media guides and other promotional publications for Maroons Athletics. He will also play a role in game day operations and the daily operations in the athletic communications office.
“I am excited to add someone to our team with a background and passion for Division III athletics,” mentioned Allison. “Brad certainly is a product of the new generation of technology experts in athletic communications. I am confident he will bring a lot to the table for Roanoke College in promoting our athletic teams.”
Moore comes to Roanoke with various experiences in athletic communications, most recently as the assistant sports information director at LaGrange College (Ga.). At LaGrange, Moore was responsible for the development of the school’s athletic website as well as comprehensive game-day management duties and publicity for all 15 Panther athletic programs.
His biggest highlight during his one-year stint included a Great South Athletic Conference Championship and a NCAA Tournament appearance for the softball team. It was the first-ever NCAA berth for a women’s sport in school history. He was also the event coordinator for the GSAC men’s and women’s basketball Tournament held at the LaGrange College. He also did some historical research for the GSAC, compiling records for each sport for the first time in the eight-year history of the conference.
An Owensboro, Ky. native, Moore has also spent time as the assistant sports information director at Western Connecticut State University in 2005, which included a Little East Conference Championship along with an NCAA Tournament appearance from the men’s basketball team that finished 24-5.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to work with what I believe to be the cornerstone of Division III athletics in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) and Roanoke College,” explained Moore.
Moore also brings a background in news media writing to Roanoke, having written for both the Danbury News-Times (Conn.), LaGrange Daily News (Ga.) and the Cincinnati Bearcat Digest at the University of Cincinnati (Ohio). He was also the founder and editor of Scoreboard of Northern Kentucky Magazine.
A 2004 graduate of Thomas More College, Moore earned a Master’s in Education concentrating on sports administration from Xavier University in 2006. While at TMC, Moore was a student assistant under former ODAC sports information director, Jason Eichelberger, who is the SID at Shippensburg University (Pa.). While a student, he also volunteered in the Xavier University Sports Information Dept. and free-lanced with the University of Cincinnati during home events for three years.
Moore is engaged to Amanda Hoffman of Cincinnati, Ohio. They are planning to wed on May 24, 2008. He begins his tenure at Roanoke beginning Wednesday, August 8.
