Gignac Named Sports Information Director at Davidson College

Davidson Director of Athletics Jim Murphy announced today that Marc Gignac has been named the college's sports information director. He will be responsible for managing the sports information office.

A Charlotte native, Gignac comes to Davidson from Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y., where he spent the last six years as the director of athletic communications for the Golden Griffins' 16-sport Division I program.

"Davidson and Canisius have very similar philosophies in regard to maintaining an outstanding academic reputation while fielding competitive athletic programs so it's an excellent fit for me," said Gignac. "I'm grateful for the opportunity to return to Charlotte and join an institution that is currently enjoying an abundance of success in intercollegiate athletics and poised to improve on its accomplishments in the future."

While at Canisius, Gignac was the assistant media director for the 2003 Frozen Four and the 2004 and 2007 NCAA Men's Basketball First and Second rounds, which were all hosted in Buffalo's HSBC Arena. He served as the primary contact for men's basketball, men's soccer and baseball.

A graduate of Charlotte Catholic High School, Gignac earned his bachelor's degree in journalism and mass communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1997 and his master's degree in sport administration from Canisius in 1999.

He began his career as an intern for the Charlotte Knights in 1997 before becoming a graduate assistant in the sports information office at Canisius from 1997-98. Gignac served as an assistant sports information director at Fairfield University from 1999-00 and George Mason from 2000-01 before returning to Canisius.

Gignac will officially start at Davidson July 23.
