Georgia State Names George Associate AD for Communications

Allison George, former Director of Communications at Georgia Tech, has been hired as the Associate Athletics Director for Communications at Georgia State, Director of Athletics Mary McElroy announced. She begins her duties immediately.

“I am delighted that Allison has decided to join our Georgia State family,” said McElroy. “She has extensive experience as an athletics communications professional at the college level. I know she will work extremely hard to grow and build the brand identity of Georgia State athletics in the Atlanta market and on the national level.”

George will oversee all aspects of the department’s athletic communications efforts, including media relations, publications, Web site, athletics broadcasting and photography. Her primary focus will be
media coverage of the Panthers’ nationally recognized men’s basketball program.

"I am very excited to be joining the staff at Georgia State. It's a time of tremendous growth for the University as a whole, and for the athletics program in particular under Mary McElroy's leadership,”
expressed George. “The potential is unlimited, and I look forward to helping Georgia State athletics grow. I am especially excited working with [men’s basketball] coach Rod Barnes and the program that he is building."

George spent 19 years as a member of the Georgia Tech Athletic Association staff. She was named Director of Communications in February of 2002.

George previously served as Tech’s Associate Sports Information Director (2000-02) and Assistant Director (1988-2000) before assuming the Director of Communications post. She also worked three years in the Tech Sports Information office as a student assistant and intern.

George, who is from Atlanta, graduated from Georgia Tech with honors in 1988, receiving a B.S. degree in management.
